Demonfall Breathing Tier List
Breathing Styles define Slayer and Hybrid combat identity in Demonfall. This tier list ranks every breathing style from S to C based on ranked performance, boss clear speed, and Patch 5.5–5.6 meta shifts. Sun and Moon remain top picks; Sound climbed after its 5.5 rework; Stone excels in guard-break PvP.
S-Tier Breathing Styles
Sun Breathing — The crown jewel. Exceptional damage, aggressive mix-ups, and Kamado family synergy make Sun the default Slayer recommendation. Patch 5.6 fixed Dragon Sun Halo bugs without nerfing base Sun. See our Sun Breathing guide.
Moon Breathing — Hybrid-only style with fast combos and strong AoE. Kokushibo in Frosty Forest — see the Moon guide.
Sound Breathing — Rose sharply after Patch 5.5's full rework: dual-wield barrages, hyper armor, and evasive extenders. Patch 5.6 fixed Sound swords on the player's back. Unlock via Tengen Uzui — Sound guide.
A-Tier and B-Tier Overview
A-Tier: Water, Mist, Stone, and Love — Stone guard-break combos and stamina regen shine in PvP after Update 4.0. Water pairs with Tomioka family. Love offers mid-range whip pressure. Mist invisibility creates mix-up windows.
B-Tier: Flame, Beast, Insect, and Thunder — Flame received a visual rework in Patch 5.5; Insect poison bypasses guard in long fights; Thunder normalized after 5.6 cooldown fixes. See Stone, Flame, and Flower guides.
C-Tier: Wind and Serpent underperform in ranked. Flower Breathing is niche but viable for agility builds — quest unlock via Kanao.
Breathing Selection Tips
Match breathing to family when possible — Kamado plus Sun is the classic optimal pairing. Hybrids can access restricted styles through special progression; read become Hybrid guide before wiping for Moon. Use Breath Indict items from codes and potions to reset styles without full account wipes.
PvP vs PvE Rankings
Insect climbs in PvP for control while Moon clears bosses faster in coordinated groups. Sun dominates both categories — the reason it stays S-tier universally. For yen farming, A-tier styles with wide AoE suffice; see farm yen guide for route efficiency regardless of style.
