Tutorial: Slayer or Demon

The tutorial begins with a scripted fight against a demon. Win the fight to become a Slayer candidate and eventually take the Final Selection exam. Lose on purpose (or die) to become a demon and spawn in the demon purgatory path instead — there is no Slayer exam on that route. This choice is permanent until you use a Wipe Potion from codes or in-game trades.

Most new players should become Slayers first to learn blocking, parrying, and Breathing unlocks. Demons have a steeper solo grind early on. If you already know you want Hybrid or Moon Breathing later, Slayer is still the recommended start because you learn fundamental combat before converting.

Family Rolls and Clans

After the tutorial, you receive a random clan (family) that passively affects stats and unlocks special bonuses. The Kamado clan grants extra Sun Breathing damage — valuable for late game but not required early. Tokito, Ubuyashiki, and other rare families shift your build toward specific styles; check our family tier list before rerolling.

Do not burn Wipe Potions chasing a perfect roll on day one. Focus on learning combat and reaching level 12–15 for Final Selection. Save rerolls for when you understand which Breathing Style you want to main.

First Hour Checklist

Complete NPC quests in Kamakura Village to unlock fast travel and basic shop access. Open the menu with Tab (or the mobile equivalent) and assign your combat slots early. Talk to every trainer marker on the map — even if you cannot afford Water Breathing yet, knowing where Urokodaki sits on Mount Sagiri saves time later.

Start picking up trinkets from low-level demon kills and sell them to fund your 2,000 yen Water Breathing fee. Our farm yen guide lists the best early loops. Avoid spending on cosmetics until your first Breathing Style is unlocked.

Combat Basics

Demonfall combat rewards blocking and timing over button mashing. Learn demon attack telegraphs in the fields outside Kamakura before attempting Final Selection. Use your basic attack chain to build combo meter, then spend it on Breathing moves once you unlock a style.

Party up for safer grinding — demon spawn camps clear faster with two or more players, and shared kills still count toward quest objectives. If you die, you respawn in your faction hub; demon players use different recovery rules covered in the become a demon guide.

Where to Go Next

Slayers should read the Final Selection guide and begin the 30-demon kill requirement. After passing, follow the Water Breathing guide for your first formal style. Aim for level 50 over time and read the Prestige guide before resetting.

Console players should bookmark the potions on console guide once you obtain your first Health or Combat Potion from active codes or drops.

Controls and Settings on Day One

Before leaving Kamakura, open Settings and review your keybinds or controller layout on the PC controls, mobile controls, or console controls pages. Assign block, dash, and menu buttons where your hands naturally rest — relearning muscle memory at level 30 wastes time.

Lower graphics settings on weak devices to maintain stable frame rate during parkour trials and PvP. Demonfall combat timing depends on readable telegraphs; choppy frames cause missed blocks that feel like lag but are actually performance drops.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I become a Slayer or demon as a beginner?
Slayer is easier for learning combat and Breathing Styles. Choose demon only if you intentionally lose the tutorial fight and accept the purgatory progression path.
What is the first Breathing Style I should get?
Water Breathing from Urokodaki is the standard first style — affordable at 2,000 yen and teaches core Breathing mechanics.
How do I open the menu in Demonfall?
Press Tab on PC. Mobile uses the on-screen menu button. Console maps Tab to a controller button shown in the controls settings.
When should I reroll my family?
Not on day one. Progress to Final Selection first, then reroll only if you have a Wipe Potion and a clear build goal like Kamado for Sun.
Why am I stuck after the tutorial?
Slayers must complete Final Selection quests. Demons follow the purgatory chain. Check which path you chose — it cannot be reversed without a wipe.
Is Demonfall pay-to-win?
No. Codes and gameplay earn potions and items. Spending Robux may speed cosmetics but core progression is grind-based.
What level should beginners target first?
Level 10–12 for Final Selection prep, then level 50 long term for Prestige and advanced Breathing unlocks.
